REHABILITATION HOSPITAL
Bridging the Gap in Irish Neurological Rehabilitation Through EU Cross Border Directive
30 Years of Excellence in Rehabilitation | Internationally Certified | Immediate Access for Irish Patients
The Challenge
Demand for specialist inpatient rehabilitation in Ireland consistently exceeds available capacity. For many patients, the interval between acute discharge readiness and rehabilitation admission extends well beyond the optimal window for neurological recovery.
The Result
During this interval, patients occupy acute hospital beds - reducing capacity for emergency admissions - while the clinical opportunity for intensive, neuroplasticity-driven rehabilitation diminishes.
An Additional Pathway
Evexia Plus offers immediate access to specialist inpatient rehabilitation, reimbursable by the HSE under existing European law. This is not an alternative to the Irish system - it is a complement to it.

Our Stroke Rehabilitation Programme

Why Early Intensive Rehabilitation Matters
The first 3-6 months after a stroke represent a critical window for neuroplasticity — the brain's ability to reorganise and form new neural connections. Research consistently shows that early, intensive rehabilitation leads to significantly better long-term outcomes.

Physiotherapy (130 min/day)
Gait training, balance rehabilitation, upper limb recovery, robotic-assisted therapy, Bobath and PNF techniques.
Occupational Therapy (45 min/day)
Activities of daily living, cognitive rehabilitation, home preparation, adaptive equipment training.
Speech & Language Therapy (45 min/day)
Aphasia recovery, dysarthria treatment, dysphagia (swallowing) rehabilitation, cognitive-communication.
Hydrotherapy (60 min/session)
Heated pool therapy for mobility, muscle tone management, and psychological benefit.
Neuropsychology
Cognitive assessment, mood management, adjustment counselling, family education.

Outcomes We Measure
We use internationally validated outcome measures to track progress:
  • Barthel Index
  • Modified Rankin Scale
  • Functional Independence Measure
  • Berg Balance Scale
  • 10m Walk Test
Our Traumatic Brain Injury Programme
Our individualized programs integrate advanced techniques and state-of-the-art technology to maximize recovery.

Physical Therapy (130 min/day)
Three-stage progression from early mobilisation through intensive gait and balance retraining to advanced functional independence. Utilizes Bobath, PNF, body weight support systems, tilt tables, and standing frames.
Occupational Therapy (45 min/day)
Upper limb retraining with cerebral robotic gloves, Rejoyce and ReoGo systems, mirror therapy, tDCS, EMG biofeedback. ADL training in simulated home environments.
Speech and Language Therapy (45 min, 5x/week)
Dysphagia management with on-site FEES and NMES. Aphasia, dysarthria and apraxia therapy, and AAC training. Includes sensory stimulation for low-level consciousness.
Hydrotherapy (60 min, 3 to 5x/week)
Multi-depth pool with hoist access, employing Bad Ragaz and Halliwick methods for spasticity reduction, balance, and graded loading.
Cognitive Rehabilitation (30 to 40 min, 2x/week)
Neuropsychologist-led program with restorative and compensatory techniques. Includes tDCS combined with cognitive training and Rehametrics software (English interface). Formal re-assessment at 12 weeks.
Psychological Support (throughout stay)
Addresses adjustment, grief, and identity change. Provides psychoeducation for patients and families, and behavioural management strategies.
Spasticity Management
Comprehensive approach including Botulinum toxin (Botox/Dysport), oral pharmacology, and neurosurgical collaboration for intrathecal baclofen pump placement. Features an early intervention protocol.
Outcome Measures
Barthel Index, Motricity Index, TUG, Berg Balance, MMSE/MoCA, Boston Aphasia Examination and full neuropsychological battery at baseline and follow-up.
Multiple Sclerosis & Parkinson's
Multiple Sclerosis Programme
The Crisis: Only 2% of Irish MS patients access neuro-rehabilitation (down from 25% in 2016).
(MS Society of Ireland, 2024)
Our Intensive Approach: • Daily therapy sessions • Functional Electrical Stimulation (FES) for muscle activation • Specialized fatigue management protocols • Balance and coordination training • Hydrotherapy for low-impact strengthening
Parkinson's Disease Programme
The Challenge: Irish patients wait 18-24 months for diagnosis, even longer for therapy
Specialized Interventions: • Surface electromyography for precise gait analysis • Cueing techniques for movement initiation • Medication optimization support • LSVT: Intensive behavioral treatment for speech and movement
